NOTR - Judge Roy Moore & The Commandments of God - 9.30.16

Today's Show: JUDGE ROY MOORE & THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD

Chris discusses the current controversy with Alabama Judge Roy Moore, who is currently being tried for his opposition to the gay "marriage" ruling and his refusal to cooperate with it.  What does the Scripture tell us about the commandments of God?  And do the powers of government have a right to violate the Biblical laws of God or to disagree with them?

NOTR - The Stamp Act - 9.29.16

Today's Show: THE STAMP ACT

Chris discusses the history of the Stamp Act and its impact on the early colonies leading up to the American Revolution.  The British Parliament placed a tax on not just stamps, but "every piece of printed paper" that they used.  The act was seen as a clear violation of the boundaries of Parliament's authority, who had been forbidden from making laws to govern the colonies.  Some of the political debates from this era seem to strike a cord with events happening in our country even today, as the role of the federal government and the courts is the subject of much controversy.

NOTR - Church & State - 9.28.16

Today's Show: CHURCH & STATE

Chris continues his discussion on the sermons preached during the time of the American Revolution, this time focusing on the controversial issue of the separation of Church and State.  What is the origin of this idea?  Does it really begin with a 19th century letter written by Thomas Jefferson?  Or was the concept taught by Reformed Protestants centuries earlier, yet with a very different understanding from what is argued by the secularists today?  Also discussed is more of the history of England and its impact on the mentality of colonists (especially the Puritans) in the New World.

NOTR - Arms & The Counter Reformation - 9.27.16

Today's Show: ARMS & THE COUNTER REFORMATION

Chris discusses some of the history of the Second Amendment and how it was established by Reformed Protestants in the aftermath of the great Reformation.  The right to keep and bear arms as an Anglo-American right is said to have come about because of events such as the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre and other atrocities against Protestants.   Meanwhile, modern Catholic sources argue that the position of the Church of Rome is that arms should only be permitted among the military and the police.  Could the opposition to civilian firearms ownership have something to do with the Counter Reformation?

NOTR - The Pulpit of the American Revolution - 9.26.2016

Today's Show: THE PULPIT OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

Chris discusses a 19th century book that documents the worldview of the ministers who preached during the time of the American Revolution.  The book was published in 1860 and openly discusses the relationship of the government and religion during the 1776 era.  The author draws a direct connection between the Protestant Reformation, along with the Puritans in the time of Oliver Cromwell, and the worldview of the American Revolutionaries.

NOTR - Abandoning Biblical Inerrancy - 9.23.15

Today's Show: ABANDONING BIBLICAL INERRANCY

Chris discusses the ongoing movement within the Protestant and Evangelical community to abandon the belief that the Bible is the "inerrant" Word of God.  The example is given of a young man who converts to Christianity, but by the time he graduates Bible college, he has become convinced that the Scriptures are not infallible.  How did he come to this conclusion?  Is this the fruit of the modern critical text theory?
