This is a great article by secular author and historian, Tom Holland. The article covers most of the arguments that are typically given about how the Christmas holiday was patterned after the ancient feast of Saturnalia, the Winter Solstice, or some other pagan event. Mr. Holland arrives at the conclusion that these ideas are unfounded, despite certain similarities in the dates and times of year that the holiday is celebrated. In the end, he declares: "Christmas is a thoroughly Christian festival."
