NOTR - Luther & The Doctrine of Baptismal Regeneration - 2.14.18

Today's Show: LUTHER & THE DOCTRINE OF BAPTISMAL REGENERATION - 2.14.2018

Chris answers an important email from one of our listeners who asked if Martin Luther believed the doctrine of Baptismal Regeneration. The doctrine (typically based on Mark 16:16) claims that water baptism is necessary for salvation. But is this what Luther believed? Some make reference to the Lutheran catechism, but it may be that the best answers come from Luther himself.  An examination of the Reformer's teachings as recorded in the work of Ewald M. Plass provides tremendous insight.

NOTR - Antichrist In Prophecy - 4.5.17

Today's Show: ANTICHRIST IN PROPHECY

Chris discusses more of the Historicist view on Antichrist and how prophecy was seen by the Reformers, in particular, their belief that Revelation chapter 9 foretold the rise of Islam in the middle ages.  Also discussed are a number of news stories, including the story of a U.S. Representative who declared that the pope was "the anti-Christ" based on her study of the Geneva Bible, along with an update on modern textual criticism and the new books that have been produced on the subject of Codex Sinaiticus.

NOTR - Cromwell, Jesuits & The Thunder of God - 10.14.16

Today's Show: CROMWELL, JESUITS & THE THUNDER OF GOD

Chris discusses the historical circumstances in England leading up to the era of the great Puritan leader, Oliver Cromwell.  It is said of that period that "good and evil, salvation and peril" had become so "confounded and intermixed" that the firmest of minds were "incapable of disentangling them ..."  Could this be a picture of America in our time?  Upon Cromwell's death, it was said that a violent thunder storm took place -- one still remembered by historians.  In the Scriptures, we are told that the Lord thunders upon His enemies (1 Sam. 2:10, 7:10, 2 Sam. 22:14).  Was Cromwell's revolution an example of this, since he specifically put down the powers that persecuted those who believed the Gospel?

NOTR - The Pope Apologizes to Protestants - 2.3.16

Today's Show: THE POPE APOLOGIZES TO PROTESTANTS

Chris discusses a series of apologies given by Pope Francis to the Protestant communities.  In particular, Francis offered an apology to the Waldensian Church -- that was persecuted for centuries by Rome, with a haunting massacre in 1655 that was immortalized in a poem by John Milton.  The current apology from the Pope stands in stark contrast to a previous apology given by Pope John Paul II in the year 2000, which was questioned by some.  What is the difference today?  And does such an apology amount to the possibility of ecumenical unity?  Or are the conflicting doctrines concerning the Gospel an impassible barrier between Evangelicals and Rome?
