NOTR - The News, Cromwell & The Execution of King Charles I - 6.30.17

Today's Show: THE NEWS, CROMWELL & THE EXECUTION OF KING CHARLES I - 6.30.2017

Chris does a follow up show on the situation in the United Kingdom and the controversies in Northern Ireland.  He also discusses a modern article on the subject of whether or not the execution of King Charles I by Oliver Cromwell and his Puritan government was right or wrong.  The article published on a UK website tackles the controversy from both sides; on the one hand, arguing that King Charles betrayed England, was rightly condemned as a traitor and deserved to be put to death.  On the other side, it is argued that his execution was unnecessary and had been instigated by Cromwell and his supporters, against the prevailing will of the people at the time.  Hundreds of years later, and the issues continue to be debated.  But why are these historic arguments important to our world today?

NOTR - Oliver Cromwell & The English Civil War - 5.30.17

Today's Show: OLIVER CROMWELL & THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR - 5.30.2017

Chris discusses some of the history of the English Civil War of the seventeenth century, drawing parallels with events happening in our country today.   For years, some who have observed the progress of conflict and division in the United States have predicted that our own country might one day enter into another civil war or revolution.  Could such a thing be possible?  Prior to the American Revolution, pastors and ministers continually referred to the conflict between the English monarchs and the great Puritan leader, Oliver Cromwell from a century earlier.  Are the struggles in America today moving in a similar direction?

NOTR - Cromwell, Jesuits & The Thunder of God - 10.14.16

Today's Show: CROMWELL, JESUITS & THE THUNDER OF GOD

Chris discusses the historical circumstances in England leading up to the era of the great Puritan leader, Oliver Cromwell.  It is said of that period that "good and evil, salvation and peril" had become so "confounded and intermixed" that the firmest of minds were "incapable of disentangling them ..."  Could this be a picture of America in our time?  Upon Cromwell's death, it was said that a violent thunder storm took place -- one still remembered by historians.  In the Scriptures, we are told that the Lord thunders upon His enemies (1 Sam. 2:10, 7:10, 2 Sam. 22:14).  Was Cromwell's revolution an example of this, since he specifically put down the powers that persecuted those who believed the Gospel?
